Revenge has been on the minds of most Arkansas fans as the Hogs face Ole Miss for the first time since their embarrassing defeat last season. Saturday, those feelings of unmet vengeance that have fermented for ten months may finally be satisfied.

Unfortunately, it’s tough to gauge this matchup because Arkansas hasn't played anyone with a pulse yet. Plenty of questions still linger. However, not only will the Razorbacks have a chance to earn their revenge, but it could finally reveal who this 2025 Arkansas team really is.

Arkansas football vs Ole Miss: Razorbackers staff predictions

Jackson

This is going to be a hard matchup for Arkansas after coming off two blowout victories over non-Power 4 programs. Not to mention, this is on the road in Vaught–Hemingway Stadium. Ole Miss is still trying to figure things out with new quarterback Austin Simmons, who is listed as probable. The Hogs have a good shot at pulling off an upset, but I believe Ole Miss will pull away with this one. This game will also test the Razorback offense and provide an opportunity to see how much QB Taylen Green has improved in his second year in the Southeastern Conference.

The Arkansas Razorbacks will prove their offense is explosive even against the No. 17 Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford. While many will rest comfortably with their predictions that the Rebels will defeat the Hogs because they have already proven themselves against a quality opponent, the Kentucky Wildcats, an SEC team, they’re overestimating how good the Wildcats are.

Arkansas is better than Kentucky on both sides of the ball. If the Wildcats were slightly better on offense, they would’ve sent Lane Kiffin home with a loss.

Arkansas offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino will open up his sophisticated playbook much more against Ole Miss than he has against two inferior opponents, Alabama A&M and Arkansas State, and the defense will not be prepared for Petrino’s offensive schemes and Taylen Green’s rushing and passing ability.

Although the Razorbacks’ defense will surrender some points, it will defy many people’s expectations, ultimately holding the Rebels to fewer points than the Hogs’ offense will score, which, especially at this point in the season, is all that one can reasonably ask of this defense.

With all due respect to Bobby Petrino, Taylen Green, and the offense, I’m sure they will do just fine Saturday in Oxford. After all, Lane Kiffin himself said this week that Arkansas scored as many points on Ole Miss’ defense last year as anyone.

The problem was Arkansas’ defense gave up more points to the Rebels (63!) than our vaunted offense scored against a pair of cupcakes (52 and 56) so far in a second run under Petrino and Green. In other words, Mississippi’s offense made last year’s Razorback defense look worse than teams from the SWAC and Sun Belt.

Coming off a year when the defense finished dead last against the past in the SEC, there needs to be consequences and repercussions on Saturday. That goes for Ole Miss — if not our defensive staff. Sure. The defense has looked adequate against cupcakes, but now it is time to dispel anything sweet.

The fate of the season will hinge on whether Travis Williams, Deke Adams, and Marcus Woodson can redeem themselves with a revamped roster. Word is Ole Miss’ already iffy quarterback situation is even more up in the air, so no excuses.

Razorbacks handle their business and get some get back.

Austin

I'm not going to sugarcoat it—this game last season sucked. Watching Jaxson Dart throw up and down the field in Fayetteville, breaking records, was disgusting. I was literally sick to my stomach watching it. If I felt that way (and I imagine many other Razorback fans felt the same), I can't fathom how Arkansas defensive coordinator Travis Williams felt about it.

It was perhaps the most embarrassing performance of his career, so you can bet he's had this one circled since November 3 of last year. Now, watching a first-time QB1 struggle in his first two games, he has to be licking his chops. Expect him to bring the house multiple times against the Rebels to throw Austin Simmons, or whoever suits up for Ole Miss, off his game.

Pair that with the Rebels' defense that doesn't look nearly as good as it did last season, and the Hogs should have their revenge Saturday night.
