In keeping with his standing as the Arkansas Razorbacks' most consistent player this season, Adou Thiero earned Razorbacker of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks. Thiero, Arkansas' scoring (16.5), rebounding (6) and steals leaders (2) on the season, averaged 12.5 points, eight rebounds and a pair of steals in last week's games at LSU and MIssouri.
The junior transfer forward from Kentucky scored his first double double of the year with a 13-point and 10-rebound night in Baton Rogue on Tuesday. Theiro followed that up 12 points and six points in Saturday's at in Columbia, Missouri. He also added two steals in both road losses.
"Adou Thiero is probably the bright spot," former Razorback and SEC Network analyst Pat Bradley said after Saturday's broadcast. "He’s the most improved player in the SEC."
Thiero averaged seven points and five rebounds as a sophomore at Kentucky a season ago. He averaged five points and 1.7 rebounds as a Wildcat freshman. The native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, whose father also played collegiately for Arkansas coach John Calipari also contributes one blocked shot a game for a Razorback team that leads the conference in that category.
Adou was one of two players Calipari praised following the loss at Missouri. Fellow-Kentucky transfer Zvonimir Ivisic had his first double double of the season while coming off the bench and earning an honorable mention. The 7-2 sophomore, who logged only seven minutes at LSU, came in the game at Missouri to score a team high 14 points and grab 10 rebounds. He also blocked two shots.
"Z stepped up and did some good things," Calipari said. "And I thought Adou fought. We’ve just got to get good play out of a lot of people. We just can’t just have guys play poorly and turn it over and do those things. We’re not one of those teams."
We only had 13 turnovers, but Adou had four and D.J. Wagner had four. That’s eight of your 13. The rest of the guys weren’t throwing it all over the place."
