Luke Hasz leads SEC tight ends in receiving yards

The best part of last season’s offense was short-lived, as Luke Hasz’ season ended when he broke his collar bone against Texas A&M. Now, he’s back with a new offensive coordinator, a new quarterback, and something to prove.

Arkansas has one of the deepest tight end rooms in the country, with Var’Keys Gumms and Ty Washington backing up Hasz. Coach Petrino is known for building an offensive with the pieces he has, so you can be sure they’ll get some production. But there’s something special about Hasz, and people around the country see it.

Last season, the Bixby, Okla. native was one of the better TEs in the SEC. Hasz was one of 14 TEs to record more than 230 yards despite only playing in five games. He racked up 253 yards and three touchdowns on just 16 receptions. The vast majority of his production came in the games against LSU and BYU, catching ten passes for 194 yards and all three touchdowns. And if it weren’t for his injury against A&M, he probably would’ve been a big factor in that game, too, after catching his only pass for 14 yards.

If Hasz can make it through the season, his numbers could resemble former Georgia TE Brock Bowers from last year. That would be more than enough to be the top TE in the SEC. Caden Prieskorn from Ole Miss was No. 2 in yards with 449, which was 265 yards less than Bowers and less than 200 more yards than Hasz.
