While the Razorbacks were not perfect against Murray State, they were so close to it one batter's foot could feel it.

The No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks (49-14, 20-10 SEC) extended their College World Series stay in Omaha by defeating the Murray State Racers (44-17, 17-8 OVC) 3-0. However, Gage Wood making College World Series history on the mound is what will stay in Razorback Nation's minds forever.

Although Arkansas' bats failed to rise to their potential for a second game in the College World Series, Wood wanted to show that he could deliver an even better performance on the mound than Gabe Gaeckle did in relief for Zach Root in a loss against the LSU Tigers in the Hogs' first game. He did. For only the third time in College World Series history and the first time in 65 years, a no-hitter was pitched, and Wood has his name next to it in the history books.

He pitched a phenomenal complete game, issuing 19 strikeouts. The Racers had no chance with a focused, passionate, and dominant Wood on the mound.

By Wood pitching a complete game, tossing 119 pitches, in the no-hitter, Arkansas' elite bullpen didn't have to do any work, which saves those arms for the next game. One cannot underscore the significance of this, given that the Hogs will need to win three more consecutive games, and the bullpen will be crucial to achieving that goal.

To win those three consecutive games, the Razorbacks' bats must come alive. The team has the elite pitching to win the College World Series, but its hitters must arrive in Omaha and give their pitchers the necessary support. Justin Thomas Jr. had four hits in four plate appearances against Murray State. Arkansas hopes today's excellent performance will spark Thomas Jr.'s hitting, supplying the Hogs with a much-needed boost at the plate.
