From the reports out of fall camp to the first drive of Arkansas' game against Alabama A&M, we knew the defense was going to struggle this season. Tonight's game showed just how much.

Ole Miss outlasts Arkansas, crushes Hogs' defense

Before the game, reports surfaced that Ole Miss' starting quarterback, Austin Simmons, would likely not play tonight. Instead, Lane Kiffin would hand the keys to his Lamborghini-esque offense to a former Division II quarterback, Trinidad Chambliss. From outside the Natural State borders, that may seem like great news. However, Arkansas has the uncanny ability to make QB2s look like Heisman contenders; tonight was no exception.

Chambliss completed 72 percent of his passes for 353 yards and a touchdown against Arkansas' porous defense. On top of that, the Farris State transfer led the Rebels in rushing, putting up 62 yards on the ground and tacking on an additional two touchdowns.

The vibe began to change after Arkansas corner Kani Walker went down with a scary head injury. Thankfully, his being carted off on a stretcher looks to be just a precautionary measure. However, the Razorbacks' defense gave the offense the chance to come back, holding Ole Miss to a field goal on the same drive and making a rare defensive stop on the next Rebels' drive.

Down 41-28, the offense scored a touchdown after the field goal to go up 41-35. After the defense stopped Ole Miss on the following drive, the Razorbacks were marching down the field right before the two-minute warning. On the very next play after the stoppage, Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green hit wideout Jalen Brown across the middle of the field for three yards, but Brown fumbled and Ole Miss recovered to ice the game.

Other than that unfortunate mishap, the offense played lights out. Green put up video game numbers, completing 63 percent of his passes for 305 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, he was just as electric. Green eclipsed 100 yards rushing and added another touchdown.

Gone are the days when Green would look for one receiver, too. Nine pass catchers pulled in a reception, as O'Mega Blake led the way with six catches for 81 yards and a score.

One of the key takeaways from tonight's game was the significant improvement of the offensive line. The big uglies kept Green clean all night, not allowing a single sack. They also only gave up two tackles for loss.

Following tonight's brutal loss, Arkansas will travel to Memphis next Saturday. The Tigers are 3-0 after today, with wins against Chattanooga, Georgia State, and Troy. The Hogs will have another good offensive team in front of them with Memphis averaging 37 points a game so far.
