The No. 16 Arkansas baseball team (26-13, 9-7 SEC) gave Razorback Nation much to cheer about in Game 1 of its three-game Southeastern Conference (SEC) series against the Georgia Bulldogs (30-9, 11-5 SEC) in Fayetteville, as the Hogs walked away from their home field with a 6-3 upset victory.

Although it was not certain at that time, the Hogs' performance in the first inning actually ended the game for Georgia. The Bulldogs never were able to recover from the three runs Arkansas scored in the first inning. Baum-Walker Stadium, arguably the toughest environment in the country for opponents, seemed to rattle Georgia. As it is key for Arkansas against Georgia and moving forward against all future opponents, the Razorbacks started fast, with starting pitcher Hunter Dietz setting the tone on the mound.

Dietz, who must be regarded as the true star of Game 1 for the Arkansas Razorbacks, gave his team 5.1 innings of excellent work on the mound, surrendering only two runs on five hits, and recorded six strikeouts. Gabe Gaeckle and Ethan McElvain finished the rest of the game in relief of Dietz and combined to permit only one run and one hit against arguably the most powerful lineup in the nation.

Although the Hogs' bats were sufficient in Game 1 of the series, highlighted by a home run to right-center field by Carter Rutenbar, they will need to generate more than the seven hits they did in this game in the next two games of the series, given the Bulldogs' bats are more than likely going to be more alive than they were in this game. Kuhio Aloy, who went 0-for-4, must dramatically improve his performance at the plate. Although he had one hit and one RBI in Game 1, Arkansas needs Reese Robinett to give his team increasingly improved plate appearances.
