The No. 16 Arkansas baseball team (25-13, 8-7 SEC) traveled to North Little Rock for an in-state battle against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) Golden Lions (17-22, 10-5 SWAC) on a mission to continue to put the Southeastern Conference (SEC) on notice that the Razorbacks are serious contenders to win the SEC and national championship. The Hogs never gave the Golden Lions a chance to believe an upset was possible, as they started fast and established command from the outset, which was a key to an Arkansas win coming into the contest.

Arkansas baseball vs. UAPB: Kuhio Aloy goes Hog wild

Before the game, the Arkansas Razorbacks knew they needed to exhibit their superiority at the plate and on the mound, demonstrate focus and discipline, and build on the momentum earned in the weekend sweep of the then No. 8 and now No. 11 Alabama Crimson Tide (27-11, 8-7 SEC). 9,101 fans at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock witnessed an Arkansas team that understood its assignment, as evidenced by its 12-2 run-rule victory over the UAPB Golden Lions.

Kuhio Aloy was the true star of the game, delivering one of his best performances of the season. Aloy finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs, which fueled an Arkansas offense that refused to allow the Golden Lions' pitching to believe it could tame a pack of wild Hogs. Cam Kozeal and Nolan Souza each had two hits and two RBIs. From top to bottom, the Razorbacks had quality plate appearances by employing a shrewd small-ball strategy rather than swinging for the fences each time, a strategy central to sweeping Alabama and crucial moving forward.

The Hogs hammered the Golden Lions' pitching, as they scored 12 runs on 13 hits, generated nine walks, withstood three hit batters, and scored in five of the seven innings played. They placed relentless pressure on UAPB to match their power at every level of the game, but with such disparities in talent, that pressure overwhelmed the Golden Lions. Oliver Grigg, Associate Communications Director for Razorbacks baseball and football, noted that this was Arkansas' eighth run-rule victory of the season.

Given that UAPB's hitting prowess was underrated coming into this game, the Hogs' pitching was impressive, thwarting the Golden Lions from relying on their greatest asset, their offense. Colin Fisher, who got the start for the Razorbacks, moves to 4-4 on the season, as he pitched 3.0 innings without surrendering a run, allowed only one hit, and produced one strikeout. In relief for Fisher, Jackson Kircher pitched for less than a full inning and permitted one run and three walks, but held UAPB hitless and had a strikeout.

Mark Brissey relieved Kircher and allowed only one hit and one walk, but held the Golden Lions scoreless with three strikeouts. Cooper Dossett closed the game in the seventh inning. He permitted the Golden Lions to score only one run, surrendered two walks, and had a strikeout.

The No. 16 Arkansas Razorbacks begin a massive three-game home SEC series against the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs (30-8, 11-4 SEC) on Thursday at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville. Thursday's game will begin at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPNU.
