Yet another replacement for Sam Pittman has been crossed of Arkansas's list

As the search continues for a head coaching candidate to replace Sam Pittman, the Arkansas Razorbacks' list of candidates has been shortened yet again.

The Arkansas Razorbacks already missed their opportunities to poach Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti or Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule as they signed contract extensions with their current programs.

Now, yet another candidate to replace former Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman had to be crossed off the list: Jeff Brohm.

Brohm has been a head coach for just over a decade, starting at Western Kentucky before moving to Purdue and finally taking over the program at his alma mater, Louisville. On Wednesday, Nov. 12, it was announced that Brohm and the Louisville Cardinals were working on an extension.

Arkansas running out of qualified head coach candidates

Cignetti's extension keeps him in Indiana through 2033, Rhule's extension keeps him at Nebraska through 2032, and Brohm's extension will undeniably keep him cemented with his former team for the foreseeable future.

Cignetti would have been the dream hire for any team looking for a new head coach, whether that be Arkansas, Penn State, Florida, LSU, Auburn, or any of the other dozen programs with a current vacancy.

Rhule wouldn't exactly have been a dream, but he would have been more than qualified. Brohm would have been a sneakily perfect fit for the Razorbacks.

Now, the program and Athletic Director Hunter Yurachek have to go back to the drawing board, once again searching for a candidate who is actually qualified enough to take over the Arkansas football team.

Over his 11 years as a head coach, Brohm has brought in two Conference-USA Championships (2015, 2016), two C-USA Division titles (2015, 2016), and a Big Ten Division title (2022). Since taking over the Cardinals' program in 2023, he has led the team to a 26-10 overall record, including a win over the Washington Huskies in last year's Sun Bowl.

When Brohm coaches, he wins, and that's exactly what Arkansas is in the market for. It's too bad more and more of the "winning" head coaches continue to be taken off the board by their own programs, leaving the Razorbacks to go further and further down their list of candidates.
