Arkansas SS Wehiwa Aloy is being projected to fall out of the natural first round of the 2025 MLB Draft, according to MLB Pipeline. However, the Wailuku, Hawai’i native is predicted to be taken off the board quickly by one of the 30 MLB teams this July.

Wehiwa Aloy drops out of first round in lastest mock draft

In this year's draft, there are only 27 picks in the natural first round of the MLB draft. The Dodgers, METs, and Yankees have a 10-pick penalty that pushes them out of the first round. Unlike the NFL, the MLB has compensation picks for teams that lose qualifying free agents that's also a revenue-sharing recipient and sign for a least $50 million, that team receives a pick between the first and second rounds. There's also a prospect promotion incentive pick and a competitive balance round.

Wehiwa is projected to land somewhere in between the first and second round by MLB Pipeline. The outlet names him along with four other players that 'won't last much longer' after the first 27 picks: Sean Gamble, 2B/OF, IMG Academy, Devin Taylor, OF, Indiana, Jack Bauer, LHP, Lincoln-Way East HS, and Andrew Fischer, 1B/3B, Tennessee.

MLB Pipeline has nine shortstops going in front of Aloy, including seven high school prospects. The two from the college ranks are Oregon State's SS Aiva Arquette and Marek Houston from Wake Forest.

Aloy is slashing for a batting average of .365 with 17 home runs and 54 RBIs across 52 games this season while putting together an on-base percentage of .450. He is also slugging for .687 to put him at an OPS of 1.137 and has strung together 26 multi-hit games this year. Aloy has put on a defensive clinic for the Razorbacks while committing just five errors in 178 total chances for a fielding percentage of .978.

Aloy and the Razorbacks will finish the regular season at home at Baum-Walker Stadium with a three-game series against the Tennessee Volunteers starting on Thursday. The first pitch for the series opener is slated for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
