Weather delays finally give Arkansas football something the SEC has long denied

It's about time Arkansas had a night game in Fayetteville.

The weather is already making an impact on Arkansas' game against Texas A&M. Early Saturday morning, Arkansas announced the game will be moved back to 4:30 with inclement weather approaching Fayetteville.

While it’s certainly an inconvenience for both teams and fans, the delay does come with a silver lining for the Hogs — something the SEC has failed to deliver in recent seasons: a night game at Razorback Stadium. If the matchup runs its usual length, it should wrap up around 8 p.m., well after sunset in Arkansas. The downside? There’s a chance the game stretches deep into the night.

Arkansas Week 8 clash with Texas A&M could potentially face weather delays

Northwest Arkansas is currently under a severe thunderstorm watch that lasts until 6:00 PM CST. But according to the forecast, the threat of lightning could clear up as soon as 4:00 PM. Still, with the NCAA's rule on lightning delays, the game will be delayed for 30 minutes each time a lightning strike is recorded within eight miles of the venue. And with each strike, the 30-minute timer starts over again.

Another scenario is that Arkansas starts against A&M at 4:30, like it's scheduled, and lightning causes a delay in the middle of the game. Coming out of the locker room after unexpected stoppages is always a crapshoot. In some cases, it can totally flip a game or make it harder to survive a comeback attempt.

Either way, it looks like Hog fans are in for a dicey evening as Texas A&M returns to Fayetteville for the first time in 13 years after playing annually in Jerry’s World.
