Arkansas football outlasted by No. 3 Texas, social media reacts
Although it was predicted that the Arkansas defense, especially the secondary, and offensive line, would continue to struggle as they have in the past two games, the defense had a decent performance in the first half. Unfortunately, as predicted, the offensive line performed poorly in the first half, resulting in No. 3 Texas carrying a 10-0 lead into halftime.
After halftime, Arkansas played more competitively on both sides of the ball, cutting the Longhorns’ lead to 13-10 in the fourth quarter. The Longhorns added a touchdown. As the Hogs were moving the ball well, Texas stripped it after a completed pass and recovered it, and the Longhorns controlled the game for the rest of the fourth quarter and ran out the clock. Texas escaped from Fayetteville, Arkansas, with a more challenging win than many expected, considering the Longhorns were heavy favorites, as CBS Sports reported.
Turnovers cost the Hogs another game. On social media, people expressed disappointment about the Hogs' 20-10 loss at home against the Longhorns.
Social Media Reactions: Arkansas football vs Texas
Mason Choate, publisher of Hawg Beat, found it a questionable decision for Bobby Petrino to “go to a true freshman for his first career reception late in a close game against the No. 3 team.”
A passionate Razorback fan who always shares his honest thoughts about the team, Hogtrough, praised the defense. However, he was unsatisfied with the Hogs’ offensive performance.
Arkansas sports journalist Will Whitson argues that this game underscores why the team needs a new head coach.
Curtis Wilkerson, Managing Editor at Inside Arkansas, could only muster a sad face.
John Nabors, the Owner of Inside Arkansas, found the way the Hogs lost to be the “Epitome of brutality.”
Danny West, an Arkansas sports journalist at Hawg Sports, highlighted the Razorbacks’ “self-inflicted” wounds. However, he appreciated the team’s “much more respectable effort.”
The Arkansas Razorbacks have one remaining home game against Louisiana Tech 4-6 (3-4 CUSA). Arkansas has one remaining SEC game: on the road at No. 23 Missouri Tigers 7-2 (3-2 SEC). The Hogs must win one of the previously mentioned games to receive a bowl game invitation.
