After a week where the SEC Power Rankings flipped upside down, only two teams moved spots.
Kentucky is a hard team to figure out. One week, the Wildcats embarrassingly lost to South Carolina. Former Georgia transfer Brock Vandagriff had a stat line from the 1920s against the Gamecocks, and South Carolina tore up the Kentucky defense.
However, the next week, Kentucky held Georgia (the No. 1 team at the time) to less than two touchdowns and lost by a point, 13-12. Then it follows up with a 41-6 bashing of Ohio and a 20-17 upset at No. 6 Ole Miss.
Well, maybe they were just a good team that struggled at the beginning of the season, right? Nope. The Cats lost the next three games to Vanderbilt — which is oddly the most understandable of the three — Florida, and last week's game against Auburn.
The Tigers were 0-4 in conference play before playing Kentucky. To be fair to Auburn, they did have a tough four-game stretch against Arkansas, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Missouri. Still, they're not a very good team. And if it weren't for Mississippi State's shotty defense, Auburn and Kentucky would be even lower than they already are.
