So, let’s get this straight. Georgia beats Texas, Alabama beats Georgia, and Vanderbilt beats Alabama. And then we have Ole Miss beating South Carolina, South Carolina beating Kentucky, and Kentucky beating Ole Miss and nearly beating Georgia. Folks, we still have six weeks to go until the conference championships. What is going on with the 2024-25 SEC football season?

Every team on the SEC power rankings moved at least one spot except for Mississippi State at the bottom. And even Mississippi State doesn’t look like a bad team. The Bulldogs took Georgia and Texas A&M to the wire, but unfortunately, they just haven’t been able to get that win. On the other hand, Georgia didn’t look excellent against a two-loss Alabama team or one-win Mississippi State. However, they handled Texas like a bottom-feeder SEC team.

The moral of the story is that anyone can beat anyone this season.

Texas dropped from number one to number five in this week’s power rankings. The Longhorns have had a Charmin soft schedule thus far, with Georgia proving as much on Saturday. In its place are the Bulldogs at number one.

However, there are two teams that no one thought would be as high as they are right now, and that’s LSU and Texas A&M. They’re the only two teams in the league without a conference loss. Both lost to traditional powerhouses (LSU to Notre Dame, Texas A&M to USC) at the beginning of the season but have been perfect since.

Alternatively, two teams have fallen off the cliff completely. Mizzou — which only has one loss — doesn’t look anywhere close to the elite team people thought they would be. They were destroyed by Texas A&M and had to fight back from a double-digit deficit to beat the second-worst team in the SEC, Auburn. Oklahoma is another. Sooner fans thought their favorite squad could come into the SEC and play with the best of in the league. However, Oklahoma is 1–3 in conference play, with its lone win coming against Auburn.
