The eighth week of the 2025 NCAA D1 baseball is in the books, but not without some movement in our power rankings. The Southeastern Conference has its teams find their rhythm while the powerhouses continue to dominate.
Arkansas takes over at No. 1 in our power rankings after going 4-0 over the week and the Tennessee Volunteers dropping two of three games to the Texas A&M Aggies. The Razorbacks took a 7-4 win over Grambling on Tuesday in North Little Rock at Dickey Stephens Park before welcoming Missouri to Baum-Walker Stadium for a three-game series. The Hogs swept the series over the Tigers and won each game by 12 or more runs to improve to 30-3 on the year. Arkansas destroyed Missouri in the series opener on Saturday while scoring its most runs over an SEC school in program history, 21-3. The Razorbacks swept Sunday’s doubleheader, with both games going seven innings.
Texas jumped up to second place in the rankings, thanks to Tennessee’s series loss. The Longhorns had a rough start to the week with a 5-3 loss to the Texas State Bobcats on Tuesday at home before welcoming the Georgia Bulldogs to UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Texas swept the weekend series in the top 5 matchup. After taking the series opener on Friday, the Longhorns found themselves down in the second game, 4-2, going into the bottom of the seventh. Texas rallied with five runs in the frame to take the lead and the eventual win, 7-4, to obtain the series victory on Saturday. The series finale on Sunday was a battle, with both teams exchanging blows. With the game tied 3-3, Rylan Galvan walked it off with a solo shot to right field to hand Texas the 4-3 win.
LSU moved up two spots to third place after going 4-0 over the week. The Tigers took care of business on Tuesday with a 12-3 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at Alex Box Stadium before traveling to Norman, Okla. LSU swept Oklahoma at L. Dale Mitchell Park over the weekend with a 2-0 shutout victory on Thursday and a huge 10-2 win on Friday. The Tigers had to fight off the Sooners on Saturday, but strong pitching performances by Chase Shores and Zac Cowan led them to a 3-2 win to complete the sweep.
Tennessee dropped down three spots from first to fourth place after dropping two out of three games to Texas A&M. After beginning the week with a 7-1 win over Tennessee Tech on Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, the Volunteers took the series opener over the Aggies on Friday in run-rule fashion, 10-0. Both teams played a doubleheader on Saturday, with Texas A&M taking the first game over Tennessee, 9-3, thanks to some late inning offense. The Aggies proceeded to destroy the Volunteers in the series finale, 17-6, in eight innings to pull off the upset in Knoxville, Tenn.
Georgia remains in fifth place in our power rankings despite being swept by Texas. The Bulldogs’ only win of the week came on Tuesday against Queens at Foley Field in run-rule fashion, 21-1.
Ole Miss climbed up two spots in the rankings to sixth place after another solid week. The Rebels run-ruled the Jackson State Tigers on Tuesday, 18-7, at Swayze Field before traveling to Lexington, Ky. Ole Miss dropped the series opener against Kentucky in a 10-inning walk-off loss, 5-4, in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader. Devin Burkes won it with an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to hand the Wildcats the victory. The Rebels rallied back in the second game with a 3-1 win to even up the series. Saturday’s series finale was an epic 12-inning battle, with both teams fighting tooth and nail for the win. Ole Miss put up two runs in the top of the 12th to take a 5-3 lead on a two-run homer by Luke Hill. Kentucky cut the deficit to one with a solo shot by Cole Hage. Alex Canney was brought in and closed out the game to give the Rebels the win, 5-4, to take the series.
Vanderbilt jumped three spots to seventh in the rankings after an exciting week. The Commodores had a handful on Tuesday against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at Hawkins Field to open up the week. Vanderbilt won the midweek contest in 10 innings, 5-4, on a walk-off single by RJ Austin before traveling to Gainesville, Fla., to take on Florida for a three-game weekend series. The Commodores shut out the Gators in the series opener on Friday, 6-0, and took the series on Saturday by grinding out a 3-2 victory. Colin Barczi hit a solo shot in the top of the ninth with the game tied, 2-2, to lift Vanderbilt over Florida, while Connor Fennell picked up the save in the bottom of the ninth. The Commodores completed the sweep on Sunday with an 11-3 win to improve to 24-8 on the year with a 7-5 conference record.
Auburn moved up a spot to eighth place while Alabama dropped down three spots to ninth. The Tigers were defeated at home by the UAB Blazers on Tuesday, 4-2, while the Crimson Tide picked up an 11-9 win over the Samford Bulldogs in their midweek game. Auburn and Alabama met at Plainsman Park for a three-game series to settle their annual rivalry. The Tigers took Friday’s series opener in run-rule fashion, 10-0, but the Crimson Tide struck back with a 6-5 comeback win on Saturday to even the series. With Alabama down in the top of the ninth, 5-4, Justin LeBron smoked a two-run home run to give the Crimson Tide the lead, and Carson Ozmer closed out the game with a scoreless bottom of the ninth. Auburn took the series on Sunday with a 7-5 victory to triumph over its rival.
Oklahoma fell down three spots to 10th place after getting swept by LSU, as previously mentioned. The Sooners did pick up a midweek win on the road over former Big 12 rival the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 8-6, at Rip Griffin Park in Lubbock, Texas.
Kentucky stayed at 11th in the power rankings as one of the three teams on our list not to move up or down this week. The Wildcats did not play a midweek game and dropped two out of three to Ole Miss over the weekend, as previously mentioned.
Texas A&M jumped up three spots to 12th place in our power rankings after pulling off the upset over Tennessee, as previously mentioned. The Aggies also picked up a midweek win on Tuesday over UIW Blue Bell Park, 21-1, in seven innings. Texas A&M is back to having a winning record at 16-15 but still has lots of work to do.
Mississippi State moved up a spot to 13th in our rankings. The Bulldogs grinded out a 5-3 win over the Memphis Tigers on the road at FedEx Park Avron Fogelman Field before heading back home to face South Carolina. The Gamecocks took the series opener on Friday, 7-3, with three two-run rallies spread across the game. Mississippi State locked in to tie the series on Saturday with an 11-4 victory and shut out South Carolina on Sunday, 6-0, to take the series at Dudy Noble Field.
South Carolina fell two spots in our rankings to 14th place. The Gamecocks picked up an 11-1 run-rule victory over Presbyterian at Founders Park before traveling to Starkville, Miss. South Carolina dropped two of three games to Mississippi State, as previously mentioned, to fall to 2-10 in conference play for the year.
Florida dropped down two spots to 15th place after another rough week. The Gators took an 8-4 win over the North Florida Ospreys on Tuesday at Condron Family Ballpark before being swept over the weekend by Vanderbilt, as previously mentioned.
Missouri remains at the bottom of the list for the eighth consecutive week. The Tigers swept the UAPB Golden Lions in a two-game midweek series with a 25-10 shootout win on Tuesday and an 8-7 walkoff victory on Wednesday. Missouri was swept by Arkansas over the weekend, as previously mentioned, and remains the only team in the SEC without a conference win.
