Sam Pittman should probably start packing instead of motivating at halftime vs Notre Dame

It's over.

It's only been one half of football, but Arkansas' game against Notre Dame may already be over, and it may be the end of the Sam Pittman era in Fayetteville. Boos and chants of 'fire Pittman' rang throughout the stadium as Arkansas went into halftime down 42-13.

Arkansas demolished before halftime

Through one half, Arkansas hasn't had much success on either side of the ball. The defense has been in its usual state, giving up 160 total yards and two touchdowns to start the game. On the flip side, the Hogs put up 119 of their own yard in the first quarter, but they couldn't find the endzone. Instead, the Hogs settled for a field goal from Scott Starzyk.

The second quarter wasn't much better. Arkansas finally reached the endzone, but in a very unconventional way. Perhaps the only bright moment of the first half was when Arkansas redshirt freshman offensive tackle Shaq McRoy scored a 1-yard touchdown. However, that's about all that went well. They couldn't punch in another after putting up another decent drive, settling for another field goal.

Jeremiyah Love almost put the Irish on his back even though there really was no need. He's put up 55 yards rushing for two touchdowns and 71 yards passing on four receptions, as well as tacking on an additional two touchdowns. For those counting at home, that's four touchdowns.

Arkansas did what they do best at the end of the half, though. No, not use (supposed) prolific offense to score. Raylen Sharpe fumbled the ball on the first play of the drive, which would've been a 20-yard gainer. With 24 seconds left, the Irish scored two plays later.

Should Sam Pittman start packing his bags?

After a performance like that, it's no longer a matter of if but when Pittman is let go. Yes, Arkansas has a horrid defense, but especially the last sequence of the half is downright unacceptable. Even ESPN suggested the Hogs have let go of the rope.

The game is all but over, leaving one question: how should Pittman use these final minutes? Should he push to rally a team that’s likely already quit while staring at a 29-point hole, or would his time be better spent packing his bags? Because, like it or not, the end of Sam Pittman seems like it'll happen sooner rather than later.
