247Sports names McFadden, Jones as the best RB Duo in college football history
It's been the better part of two decades since the dynamic duo of Darren McFadden and Felix Jones wore the Arkansas Razorback jersey. But their greatness on the college football field hasn't been matched since, at least according to 247Sports.
Tom Loy — a writer for 247Sports — put out a list of the top-50 playmaking duos in college football history. Coming in at No. 4 is McFadden and Jones. While the pair rank No. 4 on Loy's list, they're the highest-ranked duo with both players being running backs. Loy writes,
"This Arkansas backfield was simply unstoppable in the SEC. Darren McFadden was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in both his sophomore and junior campaigns at Arkansas, losing the first to Troy Smith of Ohio State and the second to Florida's Tim Tebow He rushed for over 4,500 yards in three college seasons, won just about every other major award and holds several Razorbacks records. Felix Jones averaged 7.7 yards per carry in his career with 20 rushing touchdowns and 2,956 yards on the ground. He returned four kickoffs for scores, too. If Brown and Williams were Thunder and Lightning at Auburn, McFadden and Jones were dual F-5 tornadoes."
Jones and McFadden are surrounded by college football stars in the top-10, like Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin from Florida or former USC Trojans Matt Leinart & Reggie Bush. Loy ranked McFadden and Jones ahead of running back legends like Auburn's Ronnie Brown & Cadillac Williams or Barry Sanders & Thurman Thomas at Oklahoma State.
When you add the third head of the Cerberus-like Arkansas rushing attack, Peyton Hillis, it became one of the most dangerous RB rooms ever to grace a college football field.
