ACC/SEC Challenge- Arkansas basketball matched up with Miami, Boston College
The matchups have been determined for the ACC/SEC challenge. The Arkansas Women’s basketball team will face Boston College in Fayetteville, while the Men’s team will head to Miami, Florida, and take on the Hurricanes.
Last year was the inaugural season of the ACC/SEC challenge. The conference tied with seven wins a piece in both the Men's and Women's challenges.
When the Men's basketball team played No. 7 Duke, it was the one bright spot for the 2023-24 season. The game was on the year of the 30th anniversary of when Arkansas beat Duke for the national championship in 1994. The Razorbacks unexpectedly gave the Blue Devils more than they could chew, beating them 80-75.
The Women's team smashed No. 15 Florida State 71-58 in 2023, knocking down 13 three-point baskets to FSU's six. Samara Spencer, Saylor Poffenbarger, Makayla Daniels, and Taliah Scott scored double-digit points on their way to victory.
After both Arkansas teams played nationally ranked programs, the Hogs have drawn a rebuilding Miami team and forth-to-last place Boston College. Last season, the Eagles finished with a 14-19 record, losing 11 of their final 14 games. However, the Arkansas Women's team lost four starters to the transfer portal, but they haven't recovered like the Men's team has. Next season's game could be close, depending on how the next portal additions gel in coach Mike Neighbors' system.
Unlike Duke, the Hurricanes are coming off of a disappointing season. Miami failed to make the tournament in 2024 after reaching the Final Four the year prior. Much like the Hogs, they're looking to make a return to the national spotlight. But unlike Miami, the Hogs are a completely new team with new coaches and all but one new player. From top to bottom, Arkansas has the better roster. But most of them have never played with each other, so time will tell whether or not Coach Cal's hodgepodge of players is actually a masterpiece.
