2024 Week Four 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction
After a wild three weeks, the college football world had a relatively uneventful day. That doesn't mean there isn't a little shake-up in this week's College Football Playoff rankings.
USC looked really good against LSU earlier this season, putting up 447 yards of total offense. But against the defending national champions, the Trojans were less impressive. USC still threw for 283 yards, but Miller Moss was 28/51 (54.9) percent with an interception and was sacked four times.
He did through three touchdowns, but the ground game is completely nonexistent. In the Big 10, they'll have to find some way to have more production there, or it might be a difficult inaugural year for the Trojans.
Rank | Team | Why are they here | Previous rank |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Ohio State | Big 10 Champion | 1 |
2 | Texas | SEC Champion | 2 |
3 | Utah | Big 12 Champion | 3 |
4 | Miami | ACC Champion | 4 |
5 | Georgia | At-large | 5 |
6 | Ole Miss | At-large | 6 |
7 | Penn St | At-large | 7 |
8 | Tennessee | At-large | 11 |
9 | Alabama | At-large | 10 |
10 | Clemson | At-large | 4 (Week zero) |
11 | Oklahoma State | At-large | 9 |
12 | UNLV | MW Champion | 12 |
In USC's place is Clemson. The last time it was in the rankings was week zero when the Tigers lost to Georgia. It was a beating in Atlanta, but it must have lit a fire under Clemson to the point of doing what it did against NC State.
For context, the week after its loss to the Bulldogs, Clemson dropped 56 points on Appalachian State in the first half. Against the Wolfpack — a Power Four conference opponent — they dropped 45. Yes, NC State isn't that good, especially without Grayson McCall, but beating almost any Power Four team as bad as Appalachian State is mighty impressive.
