Urban Meyer probably isn't the first name that pops into mind when you think about Razorback football, but that isn't stopping an Arkansas legend from trying to recruit him to Fayetteville.
In a recent appearance on The Triple Option podcast, Meyer revealed that none other than John Daly has been recruiting him to coach at the University of Arkansas for over a decade.
John Daly has tried to recruit Urban Meyer to Arkansas for 15 years

Alongside former Alabama running back Mark Ingram II and sports commentator Rob Stone, Urban Meyer hosts The Triple Option podcast, and on a recent edition of the show, the legendary coach told a surprising story involving the Arkansas Razorback head coaching role.
According to Meyer, Arkansas' most famous golfer -- John Daly -- has been recruiting him to be the Arkansas Razorbacks' next head football coach for the last 15 years. The two are apparently close friends, and during a recent golf tournament, Daly reignited his efforts to bring the three-time national championship-winning head coach to Fayetteville.
Regarding John Daly's recruiting efforts, Urban Meyer said:
"I was paired up with John Daly yesterday in a pro-am [tournament]. That's been my dude for a long time; he's been trying to get me to be the coach at Arkansas [for] 15 years.Urban Meyer, The Triple Option podcast
He had a few cocktails one night and started screaming at me on the phone to become the next [Arkansas] coach. Obviously, that's not going to happen. "
Meyer kept his thoughts brief when discussing the potential of him coaching for the Arkansas Razorbacks, but his comments still turned plenty of heads.
If Urban Meyer's timeline is correct, then John Daly seems to have been recruiting Meyer since Bobby Petrino was fired in 2012, making this a recruiting campaign that potentially transcends five different Arkansas head coaches (John L. Smith, Brett Bielema, Chad Morris, Sam Pittman, and Ryan Silverfield). Although it remains to be seen if the University of Arkansas ever matched Daly's effort to recruit the now-retired head coach, it's hard to knock "Long John" Daly for trying.

Meyer's final words on the subject of him joining the Razorbacks -- "Obviously, that's not going to happen." -- might hit Arkansas fans' ears wrong, but to be fair, it seems like Meyer is responding to the hire of Coach Silverfield rather than openly looking down on the prospect of coaching at Arkansas.
Urban Meyer is 62 years old, and considering his popularity (or lack thereof) among Arkansas fans, the idea of him appearing on the home sideline of Razorback Stadium feels absolutely ludicrous. John Daly's recruiting efforts be damned, the Ryan Silverfield era has begun, so for now, fans can file this reveal under entertaining offseason trivia.
Whether the hiring of Ryan Silverfield proves to be the right move remains to be seen, but at least Razorback fans now know one thing for sure: John Daly never stops recruiting.
