With only a handful of hours until Arkansas kicks off against Ole Miss, more on the status of the Rebels' quarterback has surfaced. Trinidad Chambliss will likely start over Austin Simmons after he sustained an ankle injury against Kentucky last week, per a report from On3 Sports.

Austin Simmons expected to sit against Arkansas

The Ferris State transfer was electric at the Division II level. He put up 2,925 yards through the air at a 61.6 percent clip, scoring 26 touchdowns but giving up only six interceptions. However, his arm is only part of the story.

Arguably, he's a better runner than he is a passer. With the Bulldogs, he rushed for 1,019 yards in 2024 and scored 25 additional touchdowns. Chambliss attempted 171 rushes and lost only two fumbles.

Now that the tides are shifting, this game feels like a must-win for the Razorbacks. It was already one of, if not the most, pivotal games of the season, but now that Simmons is expected to ride the bench, it seems a loss may hurt Arkansas more than a win helps.

Unfortunately, the Hogs have a history of giving up amazing performances to backup quarterbacks. Arkansas against the Bulldogs in 2020 was when Georgia folk hero Stetson Bennett started his storied career. In 2022, Arkansas gave Alabama's Jalen Milroe a chance to shine after Bryce Young suffered an injury. Hopefully, the Hogs can break the cycle and get a win over the Rebels.
