Arkansas disappoints once again losing to LSU 78-74, extending their losing streak to four games. It's the first time since the 1988-89 season that Calipari has started conference play with four consecutive losses.
The Razorbacks played well on defense throughout the first half. They displayed intensity, were active with their hands, and had solid defensive rotations. They were creating turnovers that led to transition opportunities. The offense struggled at first, but they eventually got into a rhythm and looked fluid. They were efficient in the first half shooting 43.8% from the field and 50% from three, while nine of their 14 shots were assisted.
In the second half, the defense was more inconsistent with stretches of being a cohesive unit and other stretches of being an utter disaster. The offense was inconsistent as well with large stretches of scoring droughts and careless errors. Down late in the game, Boogie Fland went on a heater scoring 10 straight points for the Hogs, but no one else was able to step up to help him take the lead. The Razorbacks were unable to overcome the mistakes they accumulated throughout the game.
One thing to note in this game. LSU took 28 free throw attempts compared to Arkansas' 13 attempts while Arkansas attempted 11 more shots in the paint.
Arkansas looks to break their losing streak as they stay on the road to take on Missouri on Saturday, January 18th.
