After winning a dramatic SEC weekend series, the first SEC series of the season, against the then No. 13 and now No. 18 Ole Miss Rebels (15-5; 1-2 SEC) in Oxford, the No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks (19-2; 2-1 SEC) were happy to return home to Baum-Walker Stadium to face the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles (12-7; 1-2 Summit).
The Golden Eagles have historically proven to be challenging opponents, including this season. Therefore, no one should allow herself or himself to believe that the Razorbacks are not playing a worthy opponent in this midweek series.
Although Arkansas won the first game of this two-game series 4-1, much of the credit must go to the Hogs' pitching staff, primarily Ben Bybee, who, according to Oliver Grigg, associate communications director for baseball and football at the University of Arkansas, "...set the tone on the mound, tossing four shutout innings with a season-high five strikeouts."
Given that Arkansas's pitchers only allowed Oral Roberts to score one run, the four runs the Razorbacks scored were enough to secure the victory. Charles Davalan had the most notable offensive performance, delivering three hits, including the hit that produced the game's first run. Razorback Nation expressed its appreciation on social media for the No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks defeating Oral Roberts in the first game of the midweek series.
