No. 3 Arkansas defeats Portland, sweeps series, fans and media react

Although the Portland Pilots made winning far more challenging than in the previous two games of the weekend series, the No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks swept them today in Baum-Walker Stadium.

The No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks (15-1) earned another weekend series sweep, defeating the Portland Pilots (5-11) 5-3 in Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville. However, the Pilots did not make it easy for the Hogs. They played their best baseball of the season against Arkansas in this competitive game.

As Daniel Shi, staff writer at Sports Illustrated, reported, Dave Van Horn knew this game would be more challenging than the previous two: "I knew it was going to be tight. You just know it was going to be tight after what happened Friday and then yesterday, those run rules, you walk somebody off in a seven-inning game, and they sit there and watch I told our guys, 'We're going to get their best shot today.'"

Arkansas baseball vs Portland: Social media reactions

The Razorbacks' bats were not as strong as they were in the previous games in the series. Arkansas scored 30 runs in only 14 innings in the previous two games. To be fair, though, one cannot reasonably expect such offensive explosions to continue. Even though the Hogs did not have the offensive production of the previous two games, they delivered two home runs. Brent Iredale hit a 409-foot home run, tying Kuhio Aloy and Wehiwa Aloy for the team lead in home runs. Iredale and the Aloy Brothers each have six home runs this season.

Catcher Ryder Helfrick hit his third home run of the season, a 382-foot opposite-field shot, which gave the Hogs a 4-1 lead in the second inning.

As previously mentioned, the Hogs would go on to win 5-3. Arkansas's win over the Portland Pilots generated positive reactions on social media.
