AJ Green is returning to Arkansas but not as a running back... Maybe

"The portal taketh and it giveth."

That's the motto of this new era in college athletics. It's a biblical example that illustrates the overwhelming power the transfer portal possesses. But sometimes, it produces the conditions for another Old Testament tell to manifest: the Prodigal Son.

Arkansas is bringing back former running back AJ Green after transferring to Oklahoma State. His time with the Cowbo's proved unfruitful as he rode the bench with an injury he suffered in the spring. The likelihood he would've made a huge impact on the field is questionable, though. He was behind a preseason Heisman candidate, Ollie Gordan, and Ok State's offense looked putrid in 2024.

Also, there's a twist to his return... maybe. Firstly, Green's returning as a walk-on. With NIL deals circulating left and right, bringing in exciting walk-ons is becoming a common occurrence. Just last season, Arkansas brought in Monte Harrison, a former MLB star turned 29-year-old college football player, as a walk-on.

Secondly, there's confusion as to what position Green is playing in 2025. Danny West of HawgSports reported the Tulsa native will move to defensive back. However, Green replied to his West's X post contradicting the 247Sports reporter.

As a Hog, Green played a significant role in all three seasons. He recorded 951 yards on 201 carries for 4.7 yards a carry and six touchdowns.
