The state of Arkansas is a small state, so it is vital for the Arkansas Razorbacks to hang on to recruits from Arkansas.

Over the years, the division 1 talent in Arkansas has been overlooked by the flagship school in the state. However, with the arrival of Sam Pittman more focus is being devoted to keeping the major division 1 talent in Arkansas. Jonesboro linebacker Marco Avant fits that description perfectly. Avant is the focus of the weekly recruiting article, and he is a key piece to what is being built on the defensive side of the ball for the Razorbacks.

The Arkansas defense has been the strength of the Razorbacks this season. Impressive play from linebackers Bumper Pool and Grant Morgan, has helped shine a spotlight on the linebacker position. The Arkansas defense has been tremendously improved over the past two days and to close out the 2021 recruiting class, the defense will be the primary focus. With Barry Odom as the defensive coordinator, bringing in recruits on the defensive side of the ball will not be a problem.

For the Jonesboro Hurricane it was a rough start to the season, but they are now 2-2 on the year. Avant is terrific when it comes to filling the gap and stopping the run. At this point in the season, Avant has racked up 33 tackles, three sacks, and one tackle for loss. Marco does an impressive job of being able to fight off blocks and make the tackle. He rarely gets caught out of position and he does an excellent job of using his speed to bring down the ball carrier.

Like all players that getting ready to sign a national letter of intent, Avant has areas of his game he can improve upon. Once Avant arrives on campus, he will need to focus on improving his pass coverage technique. Avant simply does not see enough competition that throws the ball all over the field.

The tools are there for Avant and he will be a good addition to a defense that continues to improve every week. Arkansas Razorbacks fans should look for more defensive players to close out the 2021 class, since most of the early commits have been on the offensive side of the ball.
