Remember Remember the 5th Of November!
Remember Remember the 5th of November, the Gators have lost to the Hogs! Get ready for post season Razorback fans, we are going bowling!
For the first time since 1982, the Arkansas Razorbacks have beaten the 11th ranked Florida Gators. The Hogs flat out dominated the Gators 31-10 in Fayetteville bringing their record to 6-3 for the season. The loss to Auburn might have awoken the sleeping giant in the SEC west.
Arkansas looked better tonight than they have all year. I said in my pregame article that they would have to play the best game of the season if they wanted to defeat the Gators. That’s just what they did. They evolved.
The Razorbacks Defense
Many of us have been screaming at our T.V. sets when the defense has been on the field. It seemed like Bielema and his staff would never change or try anything different to find success. It may have taken ten weeks but changes did come. And they worked!
The first time the defense took the field tonight, Santos Ramirez put the first points on the board for Arkansas with a pick-six. Overall, the defense had 21 solo tackles and 43 total along with 3 sacks. This defense was all over. They held Florida, who normally thrives on third downs, to one out of eleven conversions.

One thing that made a world of difference was starting Ledbetter on the end and starting Agim at tackle. Both of them had QB hurries during the game which helps the secondary tremendously. This d-line was on fire. I don’t know if you know this or not but Arkansas hasn’t been able to stop the run at all this season. Well, until today when they held the Gators to twelve yards including negative 25 yards from sacks to Del Rio.
Arkansas actually used the 3-4 defense tonight as well. The first time they used it, Arkansas got a monster sack on Del Rio. The only thing I didn’t like was Arkansas going into the prevent defense. As we all know, “prevent defense only prevents you from winning.” Let’s not do that again.
The Offense Gets Back To Basics
I don’t know if you have heard this or not but Florida’s defense is really good. Just not good enough to stop Arkansas when they play fundamentally sound for the majority of 60 minutes. The offensive line missed some blocks here and there but for the most part they did really good.
When the offensive line works well, the Hogs get to do what they love. Run at will. If you were wanting to see the run get some big chunk yardage, then this game was what you were waiting for. Rawleigh Williams 3rd had 128 yards on 26 carries with his longest at 41 yards for 2 touchdowns. Freshman Devwah Whaley wasn’t silent today by any means. Whaley carried 14 times for 66 yards with a longest of 16.
Where Whaley exploded was on the screen. He had 2 receptions for 69 yards with a longest of 43. We all know he is good but adding the element of him being reliable in the screen takes it to a whole new level.
Allen didn’t look that great today but after his injury at Auburn and not practicing for a week, it’s understandable. Allen went 15 of 26 for 243 yards with one touchdown and one interception. You have to think about one thing when we look at this offense. Arkansas did this well against this really good defense while Austin Allen played his worst game of the year. If this 0-line can keep progressing and Austin gets back in the groove, the Razorbacks are gonna be on a new level to finish the season.

It’s the first time in my life I have gotten to watch the Hogs beat Florida so this is a really special day to me. Now maybe I won’t only think of 2009 when I think of Arkansas and Florida. I’m very proud of this team and the coaches for making adjustments and getting it done. Let’s hope the Razorbacks keep rolling to finish out the season strong. Woo Pig!
