Predicting SEC Football 2016 – Week Seven
By Peter Morgan
48 – 9. I repeat 48 – 9. No, that is not the score prediction on the Southern Miss at LSU game. That, my good friends, is my 84.2% accuracy on picking SEC Football this season, and it’s only going to get better. Let’s roll with Week Seven.
Mississippi State @ BYU (Friday) – This is the second MSU that the Cougars have played in a row. Last week they beat Michigan State at East Lansing. This week BYU is under the close watch of Y Mountain. The big, slow landmark is symbolic of Taysom Hill, however, we will let you figure that one out. Mississippi State is from the SEC, and they are not setting any headlines on fire. The Bulldogs will give plenty of heat in the Cougars backfield and leave Deseret with a slight victory. Bulldogs by 11.
Vanderbilt @ Georgia – Do I really have to come up with something to say about this game? We all know how it is going to end. Vandy is playing like a school of learning once again. Georgia has to win to make themselves believe that they are still relevant. And somewhere in the mix, Mark Richt fans are laughing at their misery. I still think Georgia is a great team, and they remind the Commodores what the hedges are all about. Bulldogs by 11. Wait, does that sound familiar?
(1) Alabama @ (9) Tennessee: Game of the Week – I’ll save this for the end. No, forget it, I am about to predict a new end. And that is the finalization of Tennessee being ranked in the Top Ten. Yes, Tennessee is good, however, Alabama is showing everyone that, once again, they are the real deal. The Crimson Tide will win the trench wars both ways. Jalen Hurts will have no problem finding open targets after the running game is established. Also, Alabama’s defense will score. Wait, did I just predict this game or recap the Tide @ Arkansas last Saturday? Regardless, Bama by 14.
Missouri @ (18) Florida – What in the…. world has happened to Missouri against LSU? Let me guess, someone sent them a memo reminding them that they are Mizzou. Meanwhile, Florida has one loss, however, they look impressive and are able to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Remember, that one loss is to a fantastic Tennessee team
(12) Ole Miss @ (22) Arkansas – Don’t you just wish that Houston Nutt was back…. in Oxford? Just kidding, Coach, I know that you’re a big fan. Ole Miss and Arkansas are two SEC West teams, both with two losses, ranked in the Top 25. One of them no longer belongs there. The question is whether or not the Razorbacks can utilize the home field advantage to pull an “upset” over a very, very strong Rebels squad. Ole Miss still smells an opportunity for an SEC West Championship, so the desire and “we have something to play for” mentality is on their side. Arkansas may be down, and the media may be on their case. In fact, Barrett Sallee even called Arkansas “a fraud”. Furthermore, doubt may be creeping into their cracked confidence. We’ll find out, however, I see The HOGS turning things around. Arkansas by 3.
Southern Miss @ LSU: Upset Alert – Ed Orgeron has LSU pumped up. And they are playing at home against a Southern Miss. And while the Golden Eagles may be a lesser team, they will not be a pushover. LSU still has cracks in their armor, however, Death Valley is the glue that keeps Tiger weaknesses from being exposed, especially at night. Furthermore, LSU needs to know that Southern Miss is not looking at this as a payday – they expect to win. They won’t. Tigers by 21. Also, our condolences go out to the LSU Family – Mike the Tiger was one of the coolest live mascots ever. Here is to his memory, as I am certain the fans in attendance will be honoring at some point.
