The Arkansas Razorbacks have a Winning Record against Ranked Opponents
By Cory Thone
The 2015 Arkansas Razorbacks have finished their regular season with some big wins, especially when you look at the final week’s AP poll. Time and again, we’ve heard writers and fans across the country talk about how it’s not important that you beat a ranked opponent in week 3. What is important is if you beat the people that finish the season ranked.
As it stands right now, Arkansas has a 3-1 record against ranked opponents. Even more impressive is that all 4 of the opponents that the Razorbacks faced this year that are currently ranked were road games. One of the biggest criticisms of Bret Bielema coming into this season was his inability to A) win against ranked teams and B) win on the road. If it wasn’t for slow starts and injuries, then the 2015 season might look a little bit different going into bowl season.
Even with the slow start in September, the Razorbacks were able to get ranked road wins over #23 Tennessee, #12 Ole Miss, and #20 LSU. The Hogs fell 27-14 to #2 Alabama in that stretch as well.
It also begs the question “why aren’t the Razorbacks ranked?”, which is something I wrote about earlier this month. The fact is, if LSU and Tennessee can be ranked after the losing streaks that they’ve had, then so should Arkansas. But, we aren’t.
Next: What Should Collins and Henry do?
The Hogs have a good chance to finish the season with some numbers next to their name if they can get a decisive victory over the Kansas State Wildcats in Memphis. The Liberty Bowl will be played on January 2nd, and is a mid-afternoon kickoff. Should be a perfect time for Brandon Allen and the Razorbacks to showcase their offensive prowess one more time.
