Arkansas Razorbacks Fans Must Move on From that Monk Kid

One kid does not a program make. That’s a fact. Whether you want to believe it or not. Malik Monk was never going to salvage the Arkansas Razorbacks basketball program. Whatever school he picked was merely a 9 month pit stop on his way to the NBA. I’m sure Marcus was just worried that Malik would get distracted by how much fun it is being a Razorback that he might stay for more than 1 season.

I know you’re mad, Hog fans. I’m not exactly pleased. Also, don’t listen to any of these apologetic Hog fans that tell you that YOU shouldn’t feel upset that a homegrown kid spurned your school under questionable circumstances. I’m not saying I want the kid hurt or anything…I’m not a psycho. But the moment he signed with Kentucky he became the enemy, simple as that. I wish him no success at UK and I hope he loses every game. That’s less of a reflection upon him, and more of a reflection on how I feel about Kentucky and Coach Cal.

Just another example in a long line of kids that chose to leave the state to pursue their dreams of playing sports for a living. Spoiler Alert: Not many of them make it. Turns out it’s super hard to be a professional athlete. Good thing they burned those bridges when they left, negating an entire state-wide support structure that’s given to former athletes. A support system that now Kentucky fan Marcus is pretty damn familiar with. But I’m sure that Lexington will embrace Monk the same way they embraced that other kid who’s name I forget. Or the way that the state of Alabama embraced those other kids once they didn’t pan out. And so on, and so forth.

More from Razorbackers

And that’s it. This is the last paragraph that will talk about that Munk guy. Magic Munk? Malek Mink? I don’t know, I honestly can’t remember. He’s not a Razorback, so I, along with the rest of these fine folks, will forget all about him except for that one time in his 9 month semi-pro career when he plays Arkansas. Then he will be booed. With cause. Cody Berns? Kyle Frasier? Was that his name? I can’t even remember. Doesn’t matter anymore.

And I mean that it truly doesn’t matter. The Razorbacks still have at least 1 scholarship left for 2016, and whatever incredibly fortunate soul accepts that role with the team is going to be surrounded by some great talent. 3 JUCO All-Americans in Daryl Macon, Jaylen Barford, and Arlando Cook. A couple of gifted scorers in Dusty Hannahs and Jimmy Whitt, and some talented guys like Adrio Bailey and Manny Watkins. And who knows who else will tag along for the ride. It might not be the flashiest ride in the conference, but the driver has never had his wins taken away because of cheating.

Yeah, the Hogs lost to Akron last night. Pretty rough day for the men’s team, truth be told. But we all knew this season would be rough. Plus, Akron will probably be a 25 win team this year, so it’s not like it’s a terrible, horrible loss that could derail the season. Not like the last time we lost to a MAC team from Ohio.

Screw Kentucky. Woo Pig.
