#3 Running Back Recruit in Nation to Visit Arkansas

Devwah Whaley, the #3 running back and a top 50 overall recruit from Beaumont, Texas will be visiting Fayetteville for the Mississippi State game this Saturday. Whaley has over 20 offers from schools across the country, including Georgia, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Baylor, and TCU.

Whaley is one of Bret Bielema’s biggest targets for the 2016 class. The 6’0, 210 pound back has been timed with a 4.45 40 yard dash, and had 1300 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns in 2014. He has already visited Georgia and TAMU, and has chosen Arkansas as one of the last schools he’ll visit.

The 2016 class for Bret Bielema is chock full of size. 3 defensive lineman, 2 linebackers, and some offenseive lineman. Even a fullback from Missouri. The one thing that is missing from the group is a running back. The Hogs have seen why it is necessary to have a large stable of running backs in 2015. The Arkansas Razorbacks have suffered a high number of injuries to their skill players this season.

As you can see in the video above, Whaley has great speed in getting to the outside, while also having the size to be a threat between the tackles. Arkansas has had a lot of success in recruiting Texas lately. Jordan Carmouche from Manvel just committed to the Hogs. His teammate, D’Vaughan Pennamon, is also giving the Razorbacks some serious consideration. Not to mention young guys like Taiwan Johnson and Rawleigh Williams III, both from Texas, and both major contributors to the 2015 campaign.

In my opinion, Arkansas should be a very attractive place for running backs not just from Texas, but from all over. One of Bret Bielema’s first big recruits, Alex Collins, just joined Herschel Walker and Darren McFadden as one of only three running backs to have 1000 yards in their first 3 seasons in the SEC. That’s a mighty impressive achievement. If the Hogs are able to close out the season with some more big wins, then maybe that momentum will carry over into recruiting. As it stands right now, Arkansas has 16 commits, and the class is pretty good. If a few guys like Whaley jump on board, though, then the class will be elite.

Woo Pig.
