Arkansas junior Wehiwa Aloy was named to the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year watchlist on Thursday afternoon. The watch list, which includes 100 players, was released by the College Baseball Foundation on Friday, April 18.
Wehiwa Aloy up for Shortstop of the Year award
Aloy is swinging for a team-leading batting average of .379 with 16 home runs and 48 RBIs on the year. The Wailuku, Hawai'i native leads the Razorbacks in almost every offensive category with 69 base hits, 32 extra-base hits, 15 doubles and 61 runs scored while slugging for .736.
Not his Aloy swinging a hot bat, he is also making incredible defensive plays on the field. His most recent web gem came in the series opener against the Texas A&M Aggies on Thursday, April 17 at Baum-Walker Stadium. Caden Sorrell hit a hard ground ball to the left side in the vicinity of Aloy with two outs in the top of the second inning with a runner on second base.
Aloy made a slick backhanded play, then launched a throw to first while leaping in a Derek Jeter-esque fashion. 1B Camden Kozeal stretched to snag the throw, securing the final out of the inning in dramatic style in Arkansas’ 7-4 loss.
