For the third time in Arkansas history, a Razorback has earned the highest accolade in college baseball. Wehiwa Aloy is the 2025 Golden Spikes Award winner. Aloy joins Hog winners Andrew Benintendi (2015) and Kevin Kopps (2021).
Wehiwa Aloy wins 2025 Golden Spikes Award
The 47th Golden Spikes recipient transferred to Arkansas from Sacramento State before the 2024 season, and he came into the season with high hopes. However, with only a .270 average, .355 on-base percentage, and a .485 Slug, 2024 didn't turn out as planned. That's one of the things that makes Aloy's season in 2025 so outstanding.
Wehiwa—which translates to 'The prized one'—flipped a switch this season. Hit nearly 100 points better (.350) with a .434 OBP and .673 slug. He was responsible for 64 RBIs and a team-leading 21 home runs.
Except for a few instances this season, Aloy was consistently making plays at shortstop, turning double plays, and making clutch throws to first like this 'Jeter-esque' play against Texas A&M.

Aloy will add the Golden Spikes to his growing list of awards, which includes SEC POY and multiple first-team All-American selections.
Here's a little of what's expected of the Hawai'i native as he looks toward the MLB draft, according to USABaseball:
"Historically, Golden Spikes Award winners have gone on to have tremendous success in the Major Leagues. Of the 46 previous winners, six have earned Rookie of the Year honors, including Lewis in 2020. Additionally, three have won the Cy Young Award, three were named MVP, and 11 have won a World Series championship as a player or manager, combining for 18 championships. Twenty-three previous winners have also been named to at least one All-Star Game roster as a player or manager, combining for 64 total selections."
The Razorbacks own diamond sports POY
After winning the Golden Spikes, Aloy also joins his softball counterpart Bri Ellis, who also won the Player of the Year for her respective sport. It's the first time in school history that players from softball and baseball have won POY in the same athletic season.
