Starting pitchers announced for Fayetteville Super Regional opener

No. 3 Arkansas (46-13, 20-10 SEC) and No. 14 Tennessee (46-17, 16-14 SEC) have announced their starting pitchers for the first game of the Fayetteville Super Regional at Baum-Walker Stadium on Saturday. The Razorbacks will roll out LHP Zach Root and the Volunteers will send RHP Marcus Phillips.

Arkansas and Tennessee faced off in the final series of the regular season three weeks ago in Fayetteville, where the Hogs took two out of three. The Volunteers took the series opener on May 15, 10-7, but the Hogs rallied back with an 8-6 win on May 16 and an 8-4 victory on May 17 to close out the regular season strong.

Root and Phillips were the starting pitchers in the series opener. Phillips was credited with a no-decision after tossing 4.1 innings while allowing three runs, seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts on 87 pitches (55 strikes). Root was handed the loss in defeat in his shortest start of the year with 3.2 frames of work while surrendering four runs, seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts on 68 pitches (41 strikes).

The Razorbacks and the Volunteers will meet at Baum-Walker Stadium at 4 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
