In case you haven't heard, the SEC has a plethora of good basketball teams within it this season.
The problem? Just like its done in football for decades, the conference that might just be the best in college basketball is cannibalizing itself.
That couldn't be any more clear than it was on Tuesday, when No. 6 Florida destroyed No. 1 Tennessee 73-43 in Gainesville. The Vols that once looked unbeatable were suddenly made mortal.
As you'll see below, that opened up the door for the state of Alabama, which boasts a pair of teams that are 2-0 in SEC play. No. 2 Auburn took down Texas in Austin on Tuesday, while No. 5 Alabama dispensed of South Carolina in Columbia. Oh, and congrats to Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl, who became the winnigest coach in Auburn history with his 214th victory on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks seem to be in trouble on their maiden voyage. After a home loss to No. 23 Ole Miss on Wednesday, the Hogs are facing an 0-2 start in conference play for the second consecutive season. Arkansas isn't alone in the basement, however, as its currently joined by a bitter rival in LSU. The Tigers fell to 0-2 after an 83-67 loss to Missouri in CoMo.
No. 14 Mississippi State and Chris Jans continued their hot start on Tuesday, notching a road victory over Vanderbilt to improve to 2-0. It's not all bad news for the Commodores, however, who look vastly improved over their 2023-24 counterpart.
Let's end on a note that may send you into shock: Georgia has a legitimately good basketball team. After coming up short in the College Football Playoff, Dawg fans have good reasons to pack Stegeman Coliseum and support Mike White and the Bulldogs. Georgia took down Kentucky in front of a raucous crowd in Athens on Tuesday to move to 1-1 in SEC play.
