The first week of the 2025 NCAA DI Baseball season is in the books, with most of the Southeastern Conference teams having a decent to outstanding weekend on the basepaths.
SEC Baseball Power Rankings: Week one
Top 5
The top three teams stayed where they were from the previous week, with Tennessee (first), Arkansas (second) and Texas A&M (third) sweeping their opponents. The Volunteers run-ruled Hofstra in all three games over the weekend and outscored the Pride, 46-2. The Razorbacks completed a four-game sweep over the Washington State Cougars while the Aggies waltzed their way past the Elon Phoenix.
Florida and Texas flipped places to fourth and fifth place, respectively. The Gators had barely any problems sweeping the Air Force Falcons at home at Condron Family Ballpark. The Longhorns lost their Opening Day game against the Louisville Cardinals in 10 innings, 4-3, on a walk-off but run-ruled the Ole Miss Rebels and defeated the Oklahoma State Cowboys, 14-8, to finish out the weekend in the Shriners Children's College Showdown in Arlington, Texas.
Middle of the pack
LSU and Georgia also swapped positions at sixth and seventh place, respectively. The Tigers swept Purdue Fort Wayne and outscored the Mastodons 32-2 over the weekend. The Bulldogs traveled to Wilmington, N.C., to play two separate two-game series against Quinnipiac and UNC Wilmington, where they swept the Bobcats and split with the Seahawks.
Vanderbilt stays at eighth after having an eventful appearance in the 2025 MLB Desert Invitational. The Commodores narrowly escaped an upset at the hands of Grand Canyon on Friday with a 4-3 victory at GCU Ballpark but came up short against Nebraska, 6-4, at Salt River Fields on Saturday. Vanderbilt ended the weekend strong in a back-and-forth contest against the UC Irvine Anteaters, where the Commodores prevailed in comeback fashion, 9-8.
Vanderbilt also defeated the Air Force on Monday to begin a midweek series at Hawkins Field, 3-1. The Commodores and the Falcons will finish up the two-game slate on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Mississippi State remains ranked ninth after sweeping Manhattan, where the Bulldogs run-ruled the Jaspers twice.
Bottom of the barrel
Auburn, Alabama, Oklahoma and South Carolina each moved up a spot to 10th, 11th, 12th and 13, respectively. The Tigers took two out of three from Holy Cross at Plainsman Park while the Crimson Tide, the Sooners and the Gamecocks busted out the brooms. Alabama had convincing wins over Bradley, and Oklahoma blew the doors off of Leigh. South Carolina handled its business against Sacred Heart in head coach Paul Mainieri’s first three games back since he retired in 2021.
Kentucky had the biggest drop in the rankings from 10th to 14th after splitting a doubleheader with Lipscomb on Friday on the road in Nashville, Tenn. The Wildcats and the Bison were going to have a rubber match on Sunday, but the game was canceled due to inclement weather.
Ole Miss still sits at 15th on the list after finishing 2-1 in the Shriners Children's College Showdown. The Rebels picked up a huge 2-1 win over the Arizona Wildcats to begin the season but got run-ruled by Texas, 10-0. Ole Miss finished out the weekend on a high note with a 15-5 victory over the Clemson Tigers to notch two Top 25 wins to its resume.
Missouri remains at the bottom of the list after going 1-2 in the Puerto Rico Challenge. The Tigers were shut out in the opener by the Penn State Nittany Lions, 10-0, but picked up an 11-7 win over the UConn Huskies before suffering a rough 9-7 loss to the Stetson Hatters.
