Razorback Nation challenged by LSU coach—'The ball park will be purple' vs Hogs

The Arkansas fanbase isn't one to take these types of comments lightly.

Few fanbases travel better than Arkansas, especially in baseball. Arguably, one of them is LSU's. So, on Saturday, when the Hogs and Tigers clash, Charles Schwab Field will be packed with raging fans from the boot of the United States.

Nearly every time the Razorbacks have played in the College World Series, Arkansas fans overtake the stadium. But with LSU, Saturday could have a true neutral-field vibe for the first time in a while for the Hogs. However, the Tigers' head coach, Jay Johnson, has a different opinion on the matter.

Jay Johnson slights Razorback Nation heading to Omaha

Yesterday on Hurrdat Sports Live, Johnson discussed LSU's approach to the CWS. He talked about how only a few teams come to Omaha to win it, and some only play to make it there. When Johnson finished, the hosts asked how he keeps his team from being the latter.

"I think [the team] deals with—whatever you wanna call it—both praise and scrutiny more than any other team in college baseball," said Johnson. "That's because our fans are so passionate."

"The plus side that is, you know, we had 14,000 people [in Baton Rouge] last Sunday night, making it impossible for West Virginia to throw strikes... And when we show up Saturday night, the ballpark will be purple"

Johnson is obviously hyping up the Tigers fanbase, and as far as LSU PR is concerned, it's a great answer to the question. But is it really the smartest thing to say before facing what Johnson calls the 'most talented team in college baseball,' around the four-minute mark in the video?

Inadvertently, Johnson has challenged Hog Nation. Will Johnson be correct, or will the Razorback faithful show up in Omaha? We'll have to wait and see on Saturday, but it's a safe bet that Charles-Schwab will be divided down the middle in red and Purple. Only now, the red side has a little extra motivation.
