The SEC made a huge mistake with Arkansas Basketball's 2024-25 opponents
So, apparently, the SEC doesn't like money. At least, that's what they suggested with Arkansas basketball's 2024-25 conference opponents.
Yesterday, the SEC released the conference opponents for every team in the league. The Razorbacks' list has a decent home schedule, with Alabama and Oklahoma coming to Fayetteville. Mizzou, LSU, and Texas will be the only home-and-home series for the Hogs with the SEC's new schedule format.
Overall, it's not a bad schedule, but it feels like something is missing. Oh, right. Kentucky and Arkansas play just once.
Since Hunter Yurachek hired John Calipari as the head coach, Kentucky and Arkansas fans — and media members, for that matter — have been at each other's proverbial throats. The rivalry between the two programs is unmatched in terms of excitement. It's been the talk of the national media for weeks, and with Mark Pope competing for transfers with Calipari, the rivalry will continue to be at the forefront of college basketball.
When they finally meet next season, it'll be ratings gold. So, why not play twice?
The SEC did get the decision to play in Lexington correct. Coach Cal walking back into Rupp Arena is a much bigger storyline than the inverse. However, everyone loves a sequel. The potential for revenge in Bud Walton could undoubtedly draw huge ratings.
Alas, the opponents are who they are. The college basketball world has been stripped of an opportunity to see the Razorbacks and Wildcats play twice in the regular season. Most likely, for reasons we'll never know. On the bright side, there's still a chance that they play in the SEC Tournament.
