The pitching machine in Fayetteville keeps on producing. Two pitchers were named Freshman All-Americans early this week. Colin Fisher was named a starter, while Gabe Gaeckle earned a relief spot.
Fisher started seven midweek games for Arkansas until a season-ending elbow surgery sidelined him after only ten appearances. Before that, the lefty claimed a 2.67 ERA and averaged slightly over nine strikeouts per nine innings.
While it only took Fisher 10 games to be named a Freshman All-American, Gaeckle consistently brought the heat out of the bullpen this season. He finished with a 2.32 ERA in 42 innings pitched. The righty struck out a total of 57 batters for 12.11 strikeouts per nine innings. Also, he was credited for seven saves, including Arkansas’s rubber match against Mississippi State.
Gaeckle and Fisher are the 27th and 28th Razorbacks to be named Freshman All-American, making this the eighth season Arkansas has had two or more freshmen to earn the honor.
