Women's Arkansas Track & Field are national champions, men finish seventh
Arkansas track and field has done it again. On Saturday, the women's team won its third outdoor title and ninth overall, including indoor and cross country. The Men's team came in seventh after earning another SEC championship a week prior.
Going into the last day of the meet, the women's team only had two points from a seventh-place finish in the 10000m by Thorvaldson. The remaining 61 points all came on the final day. And 39 of those points belong to just four runners.
The 400m and the 4X400m relay are the events where Arkansas shined. The Razorbacks swept first through fourth in the 400M. Nickisha Pryce came in first, followed by Kaylen Brown, then Amber Anning, and finally, Rosey Effiong. That one event alone earned Arkansas 29 points. Pryce's time of 48.89 broke the meet and collegiate records.
However, those same four athletes combined for a time of 3:17.96 in the 4X400m relay, winning first place and ten more points to secure the national championship by nearly five seconds. The time was a season-best and broke the meet and collegiate records.
The Men's team didn't have the same success in Eugene, as the No. 1 ranked Razorbacks fell to seventh place and behind four other SEC teams after just winning the SEC championship.
Romaine Beckford won the national championship in high jump at 2.26m, a season-best. Arkansas's 4X400m relay team set a school record of 2:59.03 in the SEC championship and broke it again this weekend with a time of 2:58.83. However, Texas A&M bested even that time with a 2:58.37 performance.
