The Defensive Line

The defensive line was supposed to be that group Arkansas's defense could lean on in times of trouble, but that hasn't been the case. You could blame preseason All-SEC selection Landon Jackson. So far, he only has eight tackles, five solo, a tackle for loss, two pass breakups, and two more QB hurries. As the person who led the team in sacks last season, most people thought he would have at least one by now. But if you look at the tape for any significant amount of time, you'd see he's being double-teamed nearly every snap.

That's when the other guys are supposed to shine. Where's Cam Ball? Where's Eric Gregory? Where's Nico Davillier and the FCS sack king Anton Juncaj? Only Gregory has a sack to his name this season. They have a few QB hurries with Davillier, Gregory, and Jackson with at least one, but the defensive lineman with the most hardly plays. Quincy Rhodes Jr. has QB hurries in only two games.

Now, the DL isn't the only one responsible for the lack of QB pressure. Opposing QBs have used quick passes to march down the field on a secondary with too many holes. But it doesn't excuse the lack of production thus far.

Taylen Green

The passing game against UAB was Abysmal. Without Andrew Armstrong, the Blazers would have walked all over Arkansas. Taylen Green was 11-26 (42 percent) for 161 yards and an interception. His passer rating was 86.6, and his adjusted QB rating was 50.8. On the ground, Green's electric. He ran for 96 yards and two touchdowns, but he's slow in making his reads and inaccurate at times.

Something else that's worrisome is his tendency to take the big shots on every play. Just look at Luke Hasz's production. The star sophomore has the chance to be a huge asset to the Razorbacks, but he's hauled in only five receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown. As a tight end, many of his routes will be check-downs, and Green just hasn't seen him much. The good news is that nearly everything wrong with Green's performance is coachable. Hopefully, this week was a wake-up call for him.

Doneiko Slaughter

Arkansas's secondary really missed Jaylen Braxton and Hudson Clark yesterday. It allowed the Blazers to pick on a few DBs, but no one more than Doneiko Slaughter. Last week, Slaughter was in the middle of a few penalties that kept Oklahoma State alive. I guess that's what Trent Dilfert and his staff saw on tape and believed they had a chink in the Arkansas secondary's armor.

On the stat sheet, Slaughter did well, surprisingly. He came in fourth on the team in stops with seven tackles, two solo, and a pass breakup. But as a DB, that stat line doesn't always mean it's a good thing. The Tennessee transfer was targeted most of the game and gave up long play after long play. You could argue that help from someone like Clark or Braxton, but now there's no excuse for how he performed today. The competition is only going to get worse
