2024 Kickoff Countdown- Looking back at Arkansas safety Vickiel Vaughn
With exactly one month until the Razorbacks run through the "A", there's not much more to do than reminisce on the past. So, for the next 31 days, we'll select a player, play, or some other important moment in Arkansas football history to look back toward. In this edition of the "2024 Kickoff Countdown", we'll back a safety Vickiel Vaughn time at Arkansas.
Vaughn played for the Hogs between 2002 and 2005, recording 175 tackles in his four-year career, 118 of them were solo. He also recorded 12 pass deflections, forced four fumbles, and picked off the opposing quarterback seven times for 105 yards and a touchdown. According to Arkansas's football defensive records, he holds the sixteenth place in interception return yards.
His best season came in his final season at Arkansas. Vaughn recorded 83 tackles (54 solo), which came second to only Razorback great Sam Olajubutu's 118. He also defended five passes and grabbed four interceptions.
The former four-star recruit out of Plano, Texas, was selected 254th overall in the 2006 NFL draft. Unfortunately, he never played a down in the NFL. Instead, he bounced between various practice squads until he got the chance to play in the Indoor Football League with the Arkansas Diamonds.
