As far as names go, there might not be another Razorback as strange as Bumper Pool. Born as James Morris Pool, the star linebacker legally added Bumper as his first name when he was 16, less than a year before he committed to the Hogs.

It didn't take long for Pool to earn playing time. During his freshman season, he played in 10 games, starting in four, and recorded 29 tackles, 14 solo, 2.5 tackles for loss, and four passes defended. He even had double-digit tackles in Arkansas's 45-31 loss to Vanderbilt.

In 2019, he began to shine. Pool started every game in 2019 and was the second-leading tackler. He had 94, including 38 solo, 6.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, and five passes defended. In his games against Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Missouri, he had double-digit tackles, but he barely missed the mark with nine against Ole Miss, Auburn, and Western Kentucky.

The next two years were explosive for the Lucas, Texas native. He tacked on 100-plus tackles in both seasons. In 2020, he had seven more tackles in three fewer games than the year before. He also had 13 games with double-digit tackles, including his monster performance against Mississippi State in 2020. He finished the game with 20 tackles, seven solo, and two passes defended.

His final season at Arkansas was marred by injury, but he fought through the pain to do what he set out to do: to become the all-time leading tackler. He recorded his 409th career tackle against the 40-17 loss against Mississippi State, where he had 14 tackles. He finished his career with 441 tackles, 174 solo, 27.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and 19 passes defended.
