The majority of the South is considered rural, and the store taking over rural America is Dollar General. Even in some of the smallest towns, you can find a Dollar General on every street corner. It's almost like they're self-replicating.
In the same way, the SEC has taken over football. The conference consistently has the most teams with top-25 recruiting classes and poll appearances. The SEC has accounted for 13 of the last 18 national championships and has had at least one team in the college football playoffs since it started in 2015.
