As teams prepare to face one of the most electrifying guards in college basketball, the praise for Darius Acuff Jr.continues to grow, this time coming from Oklahoma Sooners coach Porter Moser.
Ahead of an upcoming matchup, the Oklahoma head coach didn’t hold back when discussing the challenge of game-planning for the star guard, even invoking comparisons to two legendary NBA players: Derrick Rose and Allen Iverson.

Moser didn't shy away from giving glowing remarks to the star freshman guard:
“For a young guy he doesn’t get sped up too much and he can score at all three levels,” Moser said. “He’s phenomenal and I love that he plays the right way too.”

It’s incredibly high praise coming from an opposing coach, but it’s also becoming a theme when coaches talk about Acuff.
Recently, Texas head coach Sean Miller echoed similar sentiments, even questioning why Acuff isn’t more widely discussed as the potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Being mentioned in the same breath as players like Rose, an NBA MVP, and Iverson, an 11-time All-Star and Hall of Famer, speaks volumes about how opposing coaches view Acuff and the challenge he presents on the court.
As Moser alluded to, Acuff’s offensive versatility is what makes him so dangerous.
Acuff can score at all three levels: he can blow past defenders and finish at the rim, pull up for smooth mid-range jumpers, and drain three-pointers right in a defender’s face. Simply put, slowing him down is difficult, stopping him completely is nearly impossible.
And if defenses somehow manage to limit his scoring, Acuff can still impact the game in another major way.
He’s widely regarded as one of the best pure passers in the country, consistently looking to involve his teammates and play unselfish basketball. His vision and willingness to distribute the ball make him just as dangerous as a facilitator as he is a scorer.
Arkansas Star Stays Focused Despite the Hype
Like any young star, Acuff knows there’s still room for improvement.
Defense remains the one area he openly admits he wants to develop further. While he’s an active and willing defender, it’s not yet the strongest part of his game at this stage of his development.
But those who know Acuff understand his competitive nature. If there’s a weakness in his game, he’s almost certainly working on it behind the scenes.
Being compared to a former MVP and a Hall of Fame guard might represent a new level of recognition for Acuff, but this isn’t the first time he’s heard the noise, and it certainly won’t be the last.
At this point in the season, he understands how to handle both the praise and the pressure.
For Acuff, the focus remains simple.
Keep playing his game.
Keep improving.
And most importantly, keep winning.
