Come Monday morning, the long-awaited decision from Arkansas target Miikka Muurinen will arrive. John Calipari and the Razorbacks have been on him for quite some time, but he revealed recently he's going to announce things at 10 a.m. ET to start the new week off.
Arkansas loses big man Malique Ewin as veteran big man enters transfer portal
From our chair, this feels like a four-team battle for his services: North Carolina, LSU, Arkansas and Kentucky. The Wildcats are the wildcard here, as reports surfaced over the weekend that Mark Pope and his staff have entered the race late to try and get Muurinen to give them a look.
So, how are things going to go down? Plenty of signs are pointing to the Razorbacks winning out here. If you take a look at his On3 page, Arkansas holds the best odds to land his commitment. Nothing is set in stone there, but Arkansas fans should be feeling pretty dang good about this.
Arkansas and John Calipari are hoping to land 5-star PF Miikka Muurinen
Muurinen is no stranger to Arkansas, as he has previously taken a visit to campus. Calipari has made him feel like a priority, but he's not the only one. North Carolina has been rumored to strongly be in the mix for him, as Muurinen's mom played two seasons for the Tar Heels. With Michael Malone taking over, it'd make sense for UNC to try and get back in on him.
LSU had boatloads of NIL money to work with and Will Wade is hoping to make a splash/get Tigers basketball back to a strong level. Speaking of NIL money, Pope also has an insane amount of dough to work with and after missing out on top portal targets, he could calm plenty of Kentucky fans by signing Muurinen.
According to the 247Sports rankings, the 6-10, 185-pounder is ranked a five-star prospect, while the Composite rankings have him listed as the No. 9 PF in the country and No. 55 player overall for the 2026 class. Soon enough, we'll find out who the standout commits to, but a move to Fayetteville shouldn't be a surprise if it goes down this summer. Get ready, Arkansas fans, as good news could be on the way.
