The Diamond Hawgs broke their single-season home run record in their first game of the SEC Tournament, and it was one to be remembered.
In the second inning against Ole Miss, Cam Kozeal lifted a ball between the Rebels right and center fielder near the warning track. It was perfectly placed so that both fielders had a chance, but far enough to sprint at full speed to make the out. Neither Isaac Humphrey nor Ryan Moerman called the other off and collided, letting the ball roll to the fence. Kozeal took the liberty of Ole Miss' misfortune and rounded the bases for an in-the-field home run.
Humphrey and Moerman were down on the ground for nearly nine minutes while the training staff tended to the injured players. One of the announcers reacted to the collision, stating it 'looked like a car accident' with the gloves, hats, and sunglasses sprawled across the lawn in center-right field. Humphrey returned, but Moerman left the game and went into concussion protocol following the collision.
It was the 110th home run of the season for Arkansas, although a little awkward to celebrate, which Arkansas baseball's official count points out.But that one unfortunate play shouldn't overshadow the 109 other home runs by 14 different players that came before.
