Tre Johnson's 39-point performance was in vain as Arkansas' group effort was enough for a win, despite having a short-handed crew.

Arkansas was short-handed against Texas after losing Adou Thiero to injury, reducing its rotation to seven players. That didn't matter, as they got the job done anyway. They were able to get an early lead, but Texas made a comeback late in the second half to force overtime. The Hogs put up a monster performance in overtime, scoring 17 points in those five minutes of extra play, beating Texas 81-86.

Arkansas has won their second straight game and is gaining steam heading into the final three games of the season. According to Joe Lunardi, they are currently in the "Last Four In" group for the NCAA tournament. This win will boost their probability of making the tournament, but they need to finish the season out strong.

Arkansas basketball vs Texas: Box Score Analysis

Balanced Offense

This was the most well-balanced offensive game the Razorbacks have put together all season. All five starters scored in double figures, and the two bench players were not far behind. They shot 46.6% from the field and 52.9% from three, way above their season average from behind the arc, which is 33.8%. They were able to draw fouls with how often they like to drive to the paint, making 23 of their 31 attempts at the line.

The offense was flowing throughout the game, and the players were sharing the ball, playing unselfish basketball. Of their 27 made field goals, 17 of them were assisted. Every player had at least one assist, and six of the seven players had multiple assists.

Everyone Stepped Up

The Hogs' rotation was shortened after Thiero's injury, meaning everyone had to step up in order to pull off the win. That's exactly what they did. Trevon Brazile had his best game in conference play, putting up 12 points, eight rebounds, and posting a team high plus/minus of +13. Giving him the start seemed to have boosted his confidence, and it was just what the Razorbacks needed.

Zvonimir Ivisic led the team with 18 points and recorded seven rebounds and two assists. Johnell Davis and Karter Knox posted 14 points and 12 points, respectively, and D.J. Wagner scored 16 points, including the free throw that tied the game to go into overtime. Jonas Aidoo and Billy Richmond also impacted the game on both ends of the floor and were close to scoring in double-figures.

Tre Johnson

Even though Tre Johnson isn't a Razorback, I have to give him the credit he is due. He torched the Hogs for 39 points, breaking Kevin Durant's record for the most points scored by a freshman in program history. It is also the 10th-most points scored against Arkansas and the 3rd-most against SEC competition.

In the initial version of this article, the headline stated that Texas Freshman Tre Johnson had 49 points in the game against Arkansas. He, in fact, had 39. Corrections have been made to reflect that.
