When the moment demanded a hero, Darius Acuff Jr. didn’t hesitate to put on the cape.

All season long, the star guard for the Arkansas Razorbacks has been the engine that powers the offense, leading the team in both scoring and assists. Everything runs through Acuff. But in a high-stakes matchup against the red-hot Oklahoma Sooners in the SEC Tournament, the Razorbacks didn’t just need their star to lead them, they needed him to be everything.

Darius Acuff Jr. Delivers a Superhero Performance Against Oklahoma

Acuff delivered a sensational performance, pouring in 37 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals, carrying Arkansas to a gritty quarterfinal victory. Efficient and fearless, he knocked down 5 of his 9 attempts from three-point range, consistently delivering answers whenever the Sooners threatened to seize control.

The game itself was a battle from start to finish. Neither team could create meaningful separation, and Arkansas even found itself trailing early in the second half. But every time Oklahoma pushed forward, Acuff pushed back harder. When the Razorbacks needed a basket, a playmaker, or even a defensive spark, it was their star guard stepping up.

While Acuff soared, help from the rest of the roster was hard to come by. Fellow freshmen Meleek Thomas and Billy Richmond III struggled to find their rhythm offensively. Richmond finished with 9 points, while Thomas added 8, leaving Acuff to shoulder the overwhelming majority of the offensive burden.

The numbers across the board showed just how tight the contest was. Rebounding was nearly identical, with Arkansas grabbing 37 boards to Oklahoma’s 36. Shooting percentages were virtually even as well, the Sooners hit 45% from the field, while the Razorbacks were right behind at 44%.

The difference ultimately came from Arkansas’ defensive intensity surprisingly. The Razorbacks forced the issue with 7 steals and 7 blocks, creating extra possessions that proved invaluable in such a razor-thin contest. Those defensive plays gave Acuff and the offense just enough opportunities to tilt the game in Arkansas’ favor.

To Oklahoma’s credit, the Sooners showed exactly why they entered the tournament on a significant winning streak. Their toughness and shot-making confirmed that they are a team no one will want to face when the NCAA Tournament arrives.

But on this night, one player proved to be the ultimate difference.

Acuff’s 37-point masterpiece marked the most points scored in an SEC Tournament game since 2016, a historic performance that further cements what has already been an unforgettable season for the Razorbacks’ star guard.

Arkansas survives and advances, and once again, it did so on the back of the player who has carried them all year.

The unbelievable season of Darius Acuff Jr. rolls on. And if this performance was any indication, the Razorbacks’ March run may just be getting started.
