In the history of Razorback football, few rivalries hold more significance than Arkansas' contentious history with the LSU Tigers. For decades, the two teams have competed for the Golden Boot Trophy, spawning some of the most memorable victories and defeats in each program's history.
At 44-23-2, the LSU Tigers have a clear lead on the Arkansas Razorbacks in the history of the rivalry. Still, that hasn't stopped either team from playing spoiler in unforgettable fashion over the years.
No. 5: 2009 - LSU 33, Arkansas 30
Arkansas and LSU's matchup in 2009 might not have had the same stakes as other memorable games between the teams, but as far as exciting games go, the LSU Tigers' 33-30 win over the Hogs was one of the most dramatic duels in the history of the Golden Boot. Bobby Petrino's second-year squad gave the No. 17-ranked Tigers a run for their money before Alex Tejada sealed the Hogs' fate by missing a 36-yard field goal in overtime, setting up LSU kicker Josh Jasper's game-winning field goal shortly thereafter.
For Razorback fans, Arkansas and LSU's 2009 tilt is one of the most heartbreaking losses in the series' history. When Ryan Mallett hit Joe Adams for a 14-yard TD late in the fourth quarter to give Arkansas a 30-27 lead, it seemed like the Razorbacks would leave Death Valley with their eighth victory of the season, only for those hopes to crumble in the final 1:18 of regulation. While Arkansas kicker Alex Tejada was the scapegoat of this loss for many fans, LSU's Josh Jasper deserves credit for one of the best kicking performances in Golden Boot history, going 4-for-4 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points -- including the game-tying and game-winning field goals at the end of regulation and overtime, respectively.
No. 4: 2008 - Arkansas 31, LSU 30
Colloquially referred to as Miracle on Markham II by many Razorback fans, Arkansas' win over LSU in 2008 was undoubtedly the highlight of Bobby Petrino's inaugural season with the Razorbacks. Heading into the game, the Hogs were 4-7 and already eliminated from bowl contention, whereas the LSU Tigers were 7-4 and in the midst of a disappointing slide after winning the National Championship the previous season. That said, despite their relatively unimpressive win-loss records, the bedlam that unfolded in Little Rock on November 28 was one of Arkansas and LSU's most memorable meetings.
Down 30-14 in the third quarter, it seemed as though Arkansas was doomed for a disappointing loss to Tigers head coach Les Miles. Then, a 46-yard TD to Jarius Wright from Arkansas quarterback Casey Dick sparked a comeback that would see the Razorbacks seal the win with 21 seconds left. While the original Miracle on Markham was more significant considering the stakes of the game, the Miracle on Markham II remains one of the most satisfying wins Arkansas has ever earned over LSU.
No. 3: 1966 Cotton Bowl - LSU 14, Arkansas 7
Many of Arkansas and LSU's best games occurred after the Razorbacks joined the SEC in 1992. However, if there is one exception to this trend, then it's the two rivals' meeting in the 1966 Cotton Bowl, which saw the 10-0 Arkansas Razorbacks take on the 7-3 LSU Tigers. With aspirations of winning their second National Championship of the decade, the Hogs looked the part, taking a 7-0 lead behind QB-WR duo Jon Brittenum and Bobby Crockett.
Unfortunately for the Arkansas Razorbacks, after Brittenum went down with a shoulder injury, the momentum would swing sharply in LSU's favor. The Tigers would score two consecutive touchdowns to take the lead 14-7, and on the Hogs' final possession, their drive would ultimately stall out at the LSU 24-yard line. It's arguably the most heartbreaking loss for the Razorbacks in the history of their rivalry with LSU (ending the Hogs' title hopes), but considering the circumstances, it's undeniably one of the best games in Arkansas-LSU history.

War Memorial Stadium played a key role in Arkansas' mythos for decades, and while its importance to the program has slowly been phased out in favor of more games in Fayetteville, no game speaks more to its significance than the Hogs' victory against LSU in 2002. Dubbed the "Miracle on Markham," this matchup between the Arkansas Razorbacks and the LSU Tigers determined the fate of the SEC West, culminating in one of the most dramatic finishes in Arkansas history.
Down 20-14 with 40 seconds left, Arkansas QB Matt Jones engineered a game-winning drive that stunned the LSU Tigers, and with nine seconds left, he found DeCori Birmingham in the back of the end zone to seal the deal. Although the Hogs would go on to lose the SEC Championship game against Georgia, Jones' heroics became immortalized in Arkansas history, spawning what many fans still consider the definitive Golden Boot moment.
No. 1: 2007 - Arkansas 50, LSU 48
When the LSU Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks squared off in 2007, more than just the Golden Boot was on the line. Sporting a 10-1 record, Les Miles and the Tigers were the No. 1-ranked team in the country, while the Darren McFadden-led Arkansas Razorbacks were coming in at 7-4 and unknowingly entering their final regular-season game under head coach Houston Nutt. Three overtimes later, and the Tigers' national championship hopes were on life support after an upset victory by the Arkansas Razorbacks.
The LSU Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks traded countless blows throughout their high-scoring 2007 tilt, and by the time the final horn sounded, the Hogs had 385 rushing yards against the stingy LSU defense. In what would go on to be Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, and Peyton Hillis' defining victory, Arkansas beat LSU 50-48 after intercepting LSU quarterback Matt Flynn's two-point conversion attempt, giving the LSU Tigers -- who would go on to beat Ohio State for the national championship -- their second loss of the season. Arkansas walked into Death Valley, beat the eventual national champion, and gave Razorback fans one of the greatest victories in school history.
For that reason, the 2007 triple-overtime classic stands alone as the most memorable Arkansas-LSU football game of all time.
