Arkansas vs Ole Miss is one of the most underrated rivalries in college football. Most people outside the two programs might not even know that much exists between them. However, it goes back to 1908.

The Hogs and Rebels have played 71 times over the years, with Arkansas leading the series 37-32-1. However, the past 16 years, in particular, have made the game exciting. Since ousted Arkansas coach Houston Nutt took over Ole Miss' program in 2008, there's been a vibe around the game, and it made for some really crazy outcomes.

The series between the current head coaches is no different. Sam Pittman and Lane Kiffin are tied at two games a piece, and neither have won at the other's stadium. In fact, Ole Miss is 13-2 all-time in Fayetteville.

History aside, the Rebels are a different team this season, with a punishing defense and the most explosive offense in the conference. We sat down with Ole Hotty Toddy's site expert, Jordan Merritt, to dive deeper into the minds of Ole Miss fans.

Q & A with Ole Hotty Toddy's site expert Jordan Merritt

Q: Ole Miss has been known for its offense under Lane Kiffin, but this season it’s been the defense that's shined. Tell me a little bit about how the Rebels managed to achieve that.

A: Acquiring transfer portal players has been fruitful these last several years, but the staff attacked it this past offseason with a clear direction. Bringing in bigger, more physical players up front who can stop the run and create havoc in pass rushing was a priority. Players like Walter Nolen and Princely Umnamielen, with SEC experience and likely day-one picks in the NFL Draft, will always help performances.

Lane Kiffin and defensive coordinator Pete Golding didn't stop at starters, having good depth to use when injuries occurred. It meant the drop-off in talent has not been alarming, allowing the defense to keep up the high standards.
